Information sent on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary

Here is a few facts regarding knife crime,

If you carry a knife you are more likely to be a victim yourself

There is a perception that only large knives pose a danger – this isn’t the case. A knife of any size can cause a potentially fatal or life-changing injury, such as permanent visible scaring or mobility issues.

Lancashire Constabulary has a zero-tolerance policy towards knife possession, and anyone who is found to be in possession of a knife could face up to five years in prison.

Nationally, young people who end up in hospital with a knife injury have usually been stabbed with their own knife – carrying a knife puts you at risk.

We know that over half of offences involving a knife happen in a private space and in most cases the offender was known to the victim, with a partner or family member often the perpetrator.

We would encourage anyone with information about knife crime in Lancashire to contact the police or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In an emergency call 999.
