  • Walk To Run

    Alert message sent 26/04/2022 08:03:00

Information sent on behalf of South Yorkshire Police

Officers from Barnsley’s Neighbourhoods Policing Teams will be helping residents Walk to Run this week by joining partner agencies at the first of a series of fitness and wellbeing events.
The Walk to Run series will be in conjunction with Barnsley FC’s Reds in the Community initiative, Barnsley Council, Barnsley Age UK, Barnsley Athletic Club, Barnsley What’s Your Move and The University of the Third Age.
The events will be aimed at getting people up off their sofas and into a regular exercise routine, using the NHS-backed Couch To 5k app - which aims to have people improve from zero running to either 5k or 30 minutes of consistent running in just nine weeks.
The events will run every Wednesday for eight weeks, starting this Wednesday (27 April) at 10.30am at the Miner’s Welfare on Park Road in Worsborough. Refreshments will be available at the venue afterwards.
They aim to get people moving and socially active, specifically targeting older members of the community in the first instance. The events will also provide support and guidance that will give people the confidence to get moving and sustain a healthy and active lifestyle.
PCSO Kat McFadzean will be one of the SYP officers on hand at the event to offer encouragement and support to those taking part and providing a visible presence to deter any ASB or other issues that may occur in the area.
She said: “This is a great opportunity for our officers to take part in some community engagement and encourage members of the communities we serve to get out and be active in a bid to boost their physical and mental wellbeing.
“We hope plenty of people will come out and join in and come up to us to say ‘hello’ while you do and let us know of any concerns you have about issues in your area.”
