Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

    Good Morning,

There has been an increase in Vehicle Crime in the West Midlands, with Fiesta's being one of the main type of vehicle that is being stolen.

Please consider the below advice to prevent having your vehicle stolen:
Lock all windows, doors and the sunroof whenever you leave the vehicle, even for just a few minutes.
If your vehicle has keyless entry and you are concerned regarding the security of this feature then investigate whether it is possible to switch your car key's signal off. Check your manual to find out if your key has this function or ask your dealer if the system can be disabled.
Installing a steering wheel lock, driveway parking post and/or a wheel clamp are great deterrents to car thieves. Please ensure that the keys to the steering wheel lock are kept separate to your car keys.
As an added protection against keyless theft you can also purchase a signal blocking pouch or tin and install a tracking device on your vehicle to aid in the recovery should your vehicle be stolen.
Check your fob has done its job. Double check that the doors to your car are locked, even after pressing lock the button on your key fob.
Remove all valuables — never leave anything on display, even just a small amount of small change. Thieves are opportunist.
Register all valuables in the car, such as radios and sat nav systems on Secure Asset Register.
Make a note of all serial numbers for items such as Sat Navs and Dash Cams remove them or lock them away when not in use.
If your vehicle doesn’t have one, fit a Thatcham approved alarm and tracking system.
If your car does not have them, fit a locking petrol cap and locking wheel nuts.
Take portable sat navs and dashcams with you when leaving the car, together with any supporting objects for them. Make sure you make a note of the serial number as well.
Wipe away any suction pad marks left on the windscreen or dashboard and remove the cable - thieves will look out for these.
Don't leave the equipment in the glove box – thieves will usually check there first.
Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team will be conducting high visibility patrols of your area. Should you see anything that you deem to be suspicious then please either call 101 in a non emergency or report it via our online system at www.west-midlands.police.uk. In an emergency always call 999
