  • Spate of burglaries around Melton Mowbray

    Alert message sent 11/01/2022 10:40:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

    Hello, Citizen

We've had a spate of burglaries and vehicle thefts around the Melton Town North Beat of late.
Here is some information to make your valuables safer and less susceptible to theft.

Hide valuables – This is not rocket science, the harder valuables are to find the less chance they are to be stolen, don’t make your valuables an easy target. This is applicable for vehicles too, when leaving your vehicle don’t have your valuables on show, leave them hidden; under the seat, in the boot or under a jacket are good ways to prevent you being a target.

Bike thefts – If you own a bike a lock is sometimes not enough to prevent criminals. Alongside locks, you can register your bike at www.bikeregister.com. This is the national cycle database and works in 3 simple steps.
1.) Add your details to the National Police-approved database for free.
2.) Mark and protect your bike with one of the approved security marking kits.
3.) Apply a warning label, reduce your risk of theft by warning thieves you use BikeRegister.

Security markings- Mark any expensive gifts or possessions that you own by writing your postcode on the item with a UV pen. This makes it more difficult for burglars to sell the items and easier for Police to recover them.

Gift packaging and boxes – When throwing out the boxes for any valuable electronics or items, don’t just leave them outside or just by the bin, this is a way that thieves notice that valuables are inside your properties. Store the boxes or packaging out of sight until they can be disposed of properly.

Safe – Small safes are a great way to store your valuables and are fairly inexpensive, leaving you with piece of mind that your valuables are tightly locked away. Make sure not to leave your safe key or combinations in plain sight.

Burglar Alarm – If you have a faulty burglar alarm get it fixed and tell your neighbours that it’s been fixed, 25% of people ignore an alarm that goes off regularly!

    Kind regards,
