Information sent on behalf of South Yorkshire Police

    Advent calendar:

On behalf of all of our officers, our four District Commanders have recorded videos to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

You can view these videos here:

    Barnsley
    Doncaster
    Rotherham
    Sheffield

Throughout the year our officers have been working hard to respond to calls for service, address issues identified as most important to you and carry out dedicated operations with our partners to keep you all safe.

Here is an overview of some of this activity across our districts:

    Barnsley:
    • Over the past 12 months local officers have been carrying out dedicated operations to tackle issues and address concerns. The most recent of these operations, Op Duxford, took place in November and saw over 130 officers taking to the streets to conduct high visibility patrols, execute warrants and engage with members of the community.
    • Tackling all forms of sexual and domestic abuse remains one of our key priorities, and over the past year our officers have been working to bring offenders to justice and raise awareness of the different support services available.
    • We have been working with partner agencies to provide an increased visible presence in our town centre, conduct checks on licenced premises and address issues relating to antisocial behaviour and public order.
    Rotherham:
    • Over the past year our officers have been working to respond to calls for service, protect vulnerable people and raise awareness of the different support services available for victims of domestic abuse.
    • We know domestic house burglaries remains one of your key concerns and we have recently created a dedicated team to focus on tackling this type of crime. Over the past few months this team have been working to gather local intelligence and identify different hotspot areas, to inform our high visibility patrols and dedicated crime prevention operations.
    • Drug use within the community was also highlighted as one of your key concerns and our officers have increased high visibility patrols in areas where there has been a rise in reports of suspected drug use. The local neighbourhood policing teams have also executed a number of warrants and seized large quantities of both class A and B drugs to tackle this issue.
    Doncaster:
    • Based on the feedback you provided, over the past year our neighbourhood policing teams have been working with our local authority partners to target antisocial behaviour and public order in the town centre. This activity has resulted in numerous ASB orders served and a number of prolific offenders arrested
    • We’ve also increased high visibility patrols in local hotpot areas and our PCSOs have been holding regular engagement events to provide residents with the opportunity to speak to a member of the team and gain crime prevention advice
    • Organised crime groups are another key priority you asked us to focus on and our dedicated Op Fortify team have been working hard to tackle this type of criminality. Over the past six months this team have executed 37 raids that have resulted in large quantities of drugs, cash and firearms removed from our streets.
    Sheffield:
    • We know drug related crime is a concern and our officers have been completing targeted activity to remove drugs from our streets and bring offenders to justice. The team have also been working with partners to educate younger members of our communities on the dangers of drug use
    • Extra patrols have been put in place in our city centre in response to issues around possible spiking offences in the night time economy. We’ve also been engaging with members of our communities to provide information on how they can report concerns and access support.
    • Burglary remains one of your key concerns and our PCSOs have been holding regular pop up engagement events to provide crime prevention advice and share guidance on how residents can take extra measures to protect their homes and belongings.
Our officers will continue with this activity over the festive period and into the year ahead, and you can keep up to date with the latest activity of your local team by following them on Twitter or Facebook.

    This week in focus:

Have you seen the messages our partners at @SySaferRoads have been sharing this Christmas in conjunction with our joint drink drive campaign?

Statistically, the ratio between the number of tests administered to the number of positive results is down compared to the usual figures – so thank you all who have been sticking to the rules of the road.

We are however coming up to the busiest period of the year, so we want to remind you all to stay safe whilst you enjoy your festivities and always remember - #NoneForTheRoad!

    In case you missed it:

Did you know we’ve created a Christmas colouring sheet for the younger members of our communities? If you would like download this for your kids, you can do so here.
