WICKERSLEY BURGLARIES

Dear Resident,
Officers and staff from Rotherham Policing District are currently investigating a series of burglaries within this locality. There are believed to have been 8 such offences that have occurred in the last two weeks. This is obviously very concerning to us.
Whilst we do not wish to alarm you, it is vitally important that you know about this and know that we are committed to doing all we can to catch those responsible and to stop this series from continuing. We want you to be safe and know that we are working tirelessly to help you.
Our research shows that those responsible are targeting properties where no-one is at home during the evening times when it is dark.
Those responsible are getting into houses by breaking the locks in rear or side doors or forcing/smashing glass to open doors and windows. There are some very simple steps that can be quickly taken to deter the offenders and protect your homes.
1. Change all the external door locks to anti-snap or anti-bump locks.
2. Do not leave keys in locks or leave keys on open view close to doors or windows.
3. Fit sash jammers to all doors and ground floor windows.
4. Fit external lighting that has motion-detection sensors fitted.
5. Consider fitting a basic intruder alarm and/or CCTV cameras.
6. Utilize timers to operate lighting within the home during the hours of darkness and close blinds or curtains to living rooms before going out in the evening.
