Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

    Good afternoon Community,

At this time of year we tend to see an increase in the number of reported burglaries within the local area.

This year is no exception and with that in mind I thought it correct to remind you to make sure that your homes are suitably secure during these darker nights.
As a result of numerous celebrations in the past months or two, be that Diwali, Hanukkah or Christmas, there tends to be more precious items retained in the home.
Please ensure that these items, like presents and jewellery (along with any cash) are retained securely, out of sight. Ideally in a safe (or similar) that is secured to a wall.

Those that cause us harm are aware that these items exist within properties and will target locations where items may be seen from the street.
As such, if you go out please lock windows and doors, and leave lights on. If you have CCTV or a 'Ring' type doorbell make sure that it is working and fully charged.
These are simple things that will deter someone from visiting you when you don't want them.

These burglaries are still few and far between, and are not a common occurrence. So please do not be alarmed.

On behalf of the Stoneygate Beat Team may I take this opportunity to thank you all for your support during 2021, and wish you all a Merry Christmas & Happy 2022.

    Regard

    Sgt Pete Colgate
