Doorstep scams take place when someone comes to your door and tries to gain access to your home and scam you out of your money or personal details. Doorstep scammers aren't always threatening, they may seem polite or friendly.

    Doorstep scammers can be:
    • Rogue traders offering you a service you don’t need
    • Bogus officials claiming that they’re from your utility company in order to gain access to your home
    • Pretending to work for a charity and asking for donations to a fake collection
Call the police on 101 if you are not in immediate danger but want to report an incident. Always call 999 if you feel threatened or in danger.

One of the most common cyber threats to people is hacking - including of social media and email passwords. Fraudsters can then use these accounts to gather more details about the victim including financial and personal details. Most cyber-attacks could be prevented by taking these basic security steps:
    • Choose strong passwords and don’t reuse them for multiple logins
    • Install security software such as anti-virus and two-factor authentication. This kind of software is often available for free
    • Keep all security software and operating systems updated
