Below is a list of our simple tips that provide effective crime prevention:

â€¢Look out for your keys: Some criminals use fishing rods and hooks to pick up keys and take them through your letter box or open window
â€¢Light up, lock up: When you go out, leave a light on and remember to check your windows and doors are locked
â€¢Not sure? Don't open the door: Criminals make up stories to try to get into your home and distract your attention whilst they steal valuables or money. They may also keep you talking on your doorstep whilst an accomplice tries to gain access to your home via your back door
â€¢Love your phone? It takes seconds for thieves to snatch it, so make sure it stays yours by trying not to use it unnecessarily in crowded places
â€¢Safe drive, stay alive: There's no safe drink/drug drive limit. Both drink/drug driving costs lives
â€¢Sounds too good to be true? It probably is: Always use secure websites - look out for the padlock symbol in the website address bar â€“ when buying things online. This will help you to avoid fake/fictious purchases or your details being stolen by criminals
â€¢Bogus calls or emails: Be wary of anyone calling or emailing saying they are from your bank - both phone calls and email are methods fraudsters use to try and gain access to your bank account. If in doubt speak directly to your bank
â€¢Protect your car: It takes just a matter of seconds for you to become a target. Always lock your car and remove any valuables that are on show. Remember also, that when defrosting your car, never leave it unattended while your key is in the ignition.
