    Alert message sent 23/02/2021 18:10:00

Information sent on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary

National statistics show that over, 88,000 pedal bikes were stolen in England and Wales between 2019 and 2020.

The Derbyshire Dales has some great areas to explore whilst cycling. We are very lucky to have such a great landscape on our doorstep but unfortunately criminals can target the location due to this.

Her are some very important to take steps, you should take to protect your property as best you can. Here are some top tips:

Keep your bicycle in a safe place with an efficient lock. Double lock your bike if possible. There are some recommendations for locks on www.cyclist.co.uk

Consider high security for where you keep your pedal bike - good quality CCTV, shed alarms, window alarms and door locks (to name a few)

Register your bike on the national database (www.bikeregister.com)

Get your bike security marked. It’s a highly effective, visible deterrent to bike thieves.

Take photos of your bike and make a note of the exact model, frame number, size and colour.

Why not insure your bike - many bikes are often worth a high amount of money therefore should be insured!

Do you use apps/gps tracking and post it on social media?Protect your data - review your privacy settings on apps. These apps track your GPS and often cyclist start there tracks from home (eg Strava). This indicates who has bicycles in the local area, pinpointed to exact locations.

Ultimately make it difficult for anyone to access your pedal bikes. For further information on how to prevent theft of bicycles please look on http://www.Derbyshire.police.uk/.../how-safe-is-your-bike/

Please ensure you act fast if your bike has been stolen. You can report this numerous ways:

    Non emergencies - call 101.

Report online at www.Derbyshire.police.uk, under “contact us”

For immediate response (crimes in progress) always call 999.
