  • An update from the WMP Commonwealth Games Team

    Alert message sent 23/02/2021 15:05:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Good afternoon all, I hope you're well.

As part of our WMNow Commonwealth Games group, we wanted to give you an update on what’s going on with the WMP Commonwealth Games team.

As we move towards March our planning and preparation for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is well underway.  Last year was really challenging as you can imagine however we are still on course with all of our plans for delivering a safe and secure Games in 2022.

If you live near one of the Commonwealth Games venues, you many have noticed our officers onsite as they carry out regular security sweeps and patrols of all of the main Commonwealth venues, including those that are under construction such as the Alexander stadium and Sandwell Aquatics Centre.  We are also using our drones in many of the areas to conduct regular surveillance at sites.

We have also seen five new security coordinators (SecCos) start working on the security operation for the Games – they will each be responsible for leading the security planning for a cluster of Commonwealth Games venues and locations.

Working alongside the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee and venue management, they will be on the ground, making sure that all our security recommendations are put into place and managed properly. They have a tremendous amount of experience, which will greatly benefit our operation, and be vital in delivering a safe and secure Commonwealth Games in 2022. You’ll be hearing more from them soon.

We’ll be back soon with more updates.  Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to discuss anything Games related. In the meantime, please do follow us on Twitter: CG2022_WMP.

    Best wishes,

    Jim
