    Alert message sent 13/01/2021 16:37:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

There have been three incidents reported to the police in the Stroud and Forest of Dean areas this afternoon, 13th January, where residents have received telephone calls from persons purporting to be from police officers.  In two cases the caller said he was from Paddington Police Station or Paddington Constabulary.  They stated that there had been fraudulent activity on their bank accounts or large amounts had been withdrawn, and that the resident should call 999 to verify the caller’s details.   The caller will leave the line open so that they can intercept the 999 call.

Please remember that the police do not operate in this way and neither the police, nor your bank, will ever ask you to withdraw money from your account.

If you receive a call like this, please hang up and wait for at least 5 minutes before using your phone again to make sure they are no longer on the line. Alternatively use another phone. Then, please report this to the police by calling 101, or on our website.

Older people are often targeted for this type of fraud, so please share this message with friends and family who you believe may be susceptible to this type of scam.

This is just one of many examples of the scams reported to your local police every day.  Please use the link below to find out more about the scam and fraud tactics used and how to avoid becoming a victim.  https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/fa/fraud/personal-fraud/
