Scam Update

Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury residents have, over the last two days, been receiving telephone calls from persons purporting to be from their internet provider. The caller states that there is a problem with their internet speed, and a refund may be due to them for the poor service provided. They ask for a piece of software to be downloaded on to the residents computer for final testing purposes, and then ask that they check their online bank account to see if the refund has been credited. The downloaded software has seemingly copied the bank account access details entered by the victim, and the fraudster has then been able to withdraw as much cash as is available.

Please be aware of this type of unsolicited call and do not be tempted to download any software or check bank details there and then. If you are experiencing issues with your internet access or speed then contact your provider directly.
